Tokyo mirage sessions4/9/2023 And if, unlike our original reviewer you eventually get tired of watching Session skill animations, Encore lets you speed them up so taking down hordes of enemies never feels slow at all.īattles take place on a circular stage, where flamboyantly dressed teens call upon otherworldly beings known as Mirages to help them fight ghoulish versions of Fire Emblem enemies like Dark Clerics and Bloodwing Knights. Encore does come with all of the original’s DLC (like extra dungeons for specific training), plus some new content like a handful of new short-but-sweet EX stories, new costumes, songs, and more, though I haven’t come across anything radically game-changing in my 10 hours with the Switch version.Įncore doesn’t do much for the UI and graphics, however: though only about five years old, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE isn’t quite up to the standard of a 2020 Switch game, but the difference certainly doesn’t take away from the entertaining performance-art battles and the faster loading times is a welcome, noticeable upgrade from the Wii U version. It would have been nice to see the option to play the original Japanese version and its slightly racy commentary on the sexualization in idol culture, but this port is of the, shall we say, “toned down” Western version that clutches its pearls at the slightest hint of skin, regardless of which region you purchase it from. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore is a slightly expanded Switch port of the original 2016 bubblegum-pop mash-up of Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei for the Wii U. Update by Casey DeFreitas, January 15 2020 Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore for Switch Usually all at once, since these over-the-top animations are part of Tokyo Mirage’s enormously fun combat. Throughout the nearly 60 hours of gameplay I was treated to a parade of razzle-dazzle vignettes that include flashy music videos, a snicker-inducing commercial where a girl rides a wave of nuclear-colored soda, and a goofy reenactment of a costume hero show. With the release of Encore, every version, including Japan's, will be based on the Western localization.Tokyo Mirage unapologetically embraces the goofier side of the Japanese entertainment industry by squeezing out every bit of silliness it can find and then dialing it up to 11. A swimsuit DLC costume that was released for the original Tokyo Mirage Sessions in Japan has not been released for international versions of the game, or the Encore version.Īll of this was originally changed during the Wii U release of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, with the Japanese version getting the younger versions of characters, extra DLC, and original visual looks.Rather than underwear being seen under skirts during certain movement-heavy attacks, a void is present (showing nothing). Some clothes have been lightly altered to reveal less, such as lengthening skirts or covering cleavage. Some monsters or characters who were wearing little or no clothing (no clothing being because they are monsters) are now wearing outfits to obscure body parts that could be construed as human nudity. Various visual changes have been made to outfits to make them less revealing. As a result of the two above points, some dialogue has been re-recorded throughout the game reflecting the age changes and the different focus of the dungeon. The photos of the women and girls in the dungeon and some of the other contextual information around this dungeon have been changed to reflect this. In the West, it concentrates instead somewhat on feeling comfortable in different outfits. The third dungeon, which is focused on a photographer taking photos of models, revolves around sexy models in Japan.16-year-olds are bumped up to 17, 18 to 19, and so forth. Everyone is a little bit older in the Encore version of the game. However, all of the changes are either visual or involved very slight dialogue tweaks that do not affect the gameplay or the story in any meaningful way. There is quite a lot of visual content that has been changed, to the point where it would be difficult to catalog it all. So, what content was changed, and from what version?
